# How do I search for a case or party?

## Find out how to search for and bookmark a case on PacerPro.

PacerPro is an overlay to PACER - meaning you can search for any case in a federal district, bankruptcy, or appellate court. You can also run PACER Case Locator searches on PacerPro.

To run a search:

- Click on the **Search** icon on left toolbar
- If you know which court the case you're looking for is in, select **District**, **Bankruptcy**, **Appellate** or **JPML**

Tip: You can select multiple courts if, for example, you know the case is in either S.D.N.Y or E.D.N.Y., but you're not sure which.

- If you don't know which court the case is in, or if you want to run a nationwide litigation profile, select **PACER Case Locator**
- Choose to either search by **attorney or litigant name** or by **case number** *(not available for PCL)*
- Enter a valid client/matter number (required if your firm requires a client/matter number for PACER searches)
