What's the difference between PDF2Go and Docket Updates?

Find out how to make sure you (or any other team member) is set up to receive the type of notifications you're looking for

PacerPro offers two different types of email notifications: PDF2Go and Docket Updates.

PDF2Go is guaranteed for cases where your firm has an attorney of record, and are completely free.

Docket Updates are available for any federal district, bankruptcy, appellate, or JPML case (regardless of whether your firm has an attorney who appears), and they incur PACER fees. Skip ahead to learn more about Docket Updates.

You can tell whether you can expect to receive PDF2Go by finding the case on your My Cases page.

My Cases

  • PDF2Go (lightning bolt) icon blue + ON: You will receive real-time PDF2Go notifications with documents attached because:
    1) your firm has an attorney of record in the case who is
    2) set up with PacerPro, and
    3) you've bookmarked the case and your PDF2Go notification setting is ON
  • PDF2Go icon blue + IF AVL: You will only receive real-time PDF2Go notifications with documents attached if another PacerPro customer is set up with PacerPro in this case, because although you your firm does not have an attorney of record in the case, you have your PDF2Go notification setting ON to receive notifications if we happen to process them
  • PDF2Go icon white + OFF: You will not receive any real-time notifications for this case because, while you have this case bookmarked, your PDF2Go settings are OFF
  • To adjust any of these settings, or to learn more information about them, click the PDF2Go icon

To find out whether a team member will receive PDF2Go, click on the Team icon and check to see if that person is listed, and whether PDF2Go is toggled ON for them. If so, the same settings that apply for you will apply for them.

Docket Updates

You'll receive docket updates if you've set one up yourself (PACER fees apply), or if you turn on Docket Update notifications and another user has an Update Schedule set, or refreshes the docket on PacerPro.

  • To check whether you've set an Update Schedule, check the Calendar icon in the second column to the right
    • If it says Daily, Weekday, Weekly, or Monthly, you have an Update Schedule set
      • PacerPro will email you a redline of any changes to the docket since the last update
      • PACER fees apply at the selected frequency (10 cents a page, up to $3/update), regardless of whether there has been activity
    • If it says Manual, you will receive an update if there has been activity and another user has an Update Schedule set, or refreshes the docket on PacerPro
      • You will not be charged for these updates
      • You may stop receiving these updates at any time if the other PacerPro user turns off their update schedule
    • If it says Off, this means you will not receive Docket Updates in this case

If your firm requires a client/matter number for searching or downloading on PACER, enter a client/matter number for this case in the format required. Because we're logging into PACER on your firm's behalf, the Docket Update will not run without it.
